This is going to feel like a strange week: NYC Public Schools are off Thursday and Friday, and while not everyone in Hunters Point South have kids, the days off will give many excuses for a large group of neighbors to leave town. It’s going to feel a bit more empty near the end of the week.

What’s happening in city government?
The Committee on Finance will continue to hold hearings on the city budget as the Council and Mayor negotiation on the budget due June 30th. The next opportunity for public testimony will be Wednesday, June 10, 2026, beginning at 9:30 am. Topics which are important to HPS/LIC are:
- City funds commitments for OneLIC
- Restore transportation budget cuts
- Restore park budget cuts
- Restore education budget cuts

Weather vibes
Spring vibes this week with the lows in the 60’s, and getting stuffier and warmer by week’s end. Chance of rain on the weekend. Vibes are good.
MTA work
Weekend work will effect the G and E trains:
- G Train: No G between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Court Sq, shuttlebus replaces train.
- E Train: World Trade Center-bound E runs via Roosevelt Island from 21 St-Queensbridge, Queens to W 4 St-Wash Sq, Manhattan.
Next Week
The World Cup starts June 11th, so there will be all sorts of watch parties in the neighborhood. As we’re getting into the beginning of summer, many employees will have Summer Fridays so the weekends will begin to feel a bit more empty, and Thursday night traffic will be tough.
