This refinery used to sit at the very southern end of Hunters Point South, where PS 384 and Gotham Point currently sit.
Founded 1897 by Claus Doscher as the New York Sugar Refining Company. Merged in 1900 into the National Sugar Refining Company, which produced Jack Frost Sugar. At peak employed 1,300 workers and produced 4 million pounds of refined sugar daily. Closed 1964. Site later occupied by a New York Daily News printing plant and a variety of industrial uses. The city acquired the land from the Port Authority as part of its bid to host the 2012 Olympics. When New York lost the bid to London, the site was redeveloped into Hunters Point South.
