The Knicks are up 2-0 in the NBA final. New York hasn’t been here in 25 years, and now they’re hosting the San Antonio Spurs for Game 3 on Monday and Game 4 on Wednesday at MSG. Trump is attending Monday’s game, which will either supercharge the crowd or hex the whole thing. Either way, this city is not going to be talking about much else.
For those of us staying in the neighborhood, it’s actually a strong week.
MONDAY
Bing-bong, the Knicks play Game 3 at MSG. Every bar and restaurant in HPS is playing the Knicks. It’s everywhere. You cannot resist.
TUESDAY
Step outside the block to attend Museum Mile Festival night on Fifth Avenue, with free admission at major institutions from 6 to 9 PM. The New York Philharmonic plays Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx the same night at 8 PM, free, with fireworks after.
WEDNESDAY
Welcome to Game 4, which is either a chance for the Knicks to sew up the championship or it will show that Trump hexed the team on Monday. The New York Philharmonic also plays Central Park at 8 PM if you need somewhere to be before tip-off.
THURSDAY
Thursday the 11th is packed right here in HPS. Start the morning at Gantry Plaza with Fishing at the Gantries from 10 AM to 12:45 PM. Learn rod-and-reel fishing and help collect East River conservation data. Free, all ages, Pier 4. That afternoon, Pretty Pigeon Day runs from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, also at Gantry, with birdwatching and watercolor art. That evening, The Grim Readers true crime book club meets at 6 PM. Further into Queens, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center screens My Sunnyside at 6:30 PM with a Q&A after, free and open to the public.
FRIDAY
Culture Lab LIC’s free Sunset Jazz series continues Friday at 8 PM with Kristina Koller, a New York-based jazz vocalist. Free, inside the gallery, seating is limited so get there early. If you’re up for a longer trip, the inaugural Brooklyn Guitar Festival opens the same night at Warsaw in Greenpoint.
SATURDAY
On Saturday the 13th, Culture Lab LIC hosts Shakedown at The Lot, a full-day outdoor mini-festival inspired by the Grateful Dead, with live sets from Peaceknicks and Corduroy Dancers starting at 4:30 PM. Same day, Family Fun Fest with Kenan Thompson takes over Partake NYC on 44th Road starting at noon, with bouncy houses, food, and a special appearance from the SNL veteran.
SUNDAY
Sunday the 14th, Culture Lab hosts the 5th Annual Queens Irish Heritage Festival from 4 to 9 PM, with five hours of live music, traditional step dancing, and over 40 artists. Free and outdoors.
