23 acres of waterfront green space on former industrial waterfront, opened in two phases, 2013 and 2018.
Built in two phases on former industrial waterfront, Hunter’s Point South Park opened its first 5.5 acres in 2013, with a children’s playground, basketball courts, a dog run, and an urban beach. Phase two followed in 2018, adding wetlands, a cantilevered overlook with sweeping Manhattan views, and two permanent public artworks. The park is now managed by NYC Parks with support from the Hunters Point Park Conservancy.
A note on names: Hunters Point South Park is the city-run park at the southern end of our waterfront — not to be confused with Gantry Plaza State Park, the state-run park directly to its north. The two sit side by side with no clear line between them, which is where the confusion usually starts.
