Restored gantries, four piers, and the borough’s best skyline view: on state parkland since 1998.
Opened in 1998 and expanded in 2009, Gantry Plaza sits on what was once a working rail and barge yard: the gantries themselves once moved freight railcars between Queens and Manhattan. Today the park’s four piers, gardens, and restored Pepsi-Cola sign frame one of the borough’s best views of the Manhattan skyline.
A note on names: Gantry Plaza State Park is the 12-acre state park at the northern end of our waterfront — not to be confused with Hunters Point South Park, the city-run park directly to its south. The two sit side by side with no clear line between them, which is where the confusion usually starts.

Pepsi-Cola at Night
Erected in 1940 atop Pepsi-Cola’s LIC bottling plant, the 50-foot neon sign was once New York state’s longest electric sign. It survived a decades-long landmark fight, outlasted the plant itself (demolished 2004), and now stands in Gantry Plaza State Park, landmarked since 2016.
