One school, two buildings — PS 384 outgrew its first home before it turned five, with a second campus now under construction at Parcel C.
PS 384 opened in 2019 in a temporary Court Square classroom, built to catch the overflow from an already-crowded PS 78. Seven years later, the school has outgrown its own permanent building: a second site is now under construction less than half a mile away, at Parcel C on 54th Avenue.
Every NYC public school has two identifiers that often get confused: a school number (like PS 384) and a building number, assigned by the School Construction Authority to the physical structure itself. A school can occupy one building or several, and a building can house more than one school over time. PS 384’s original site is building Q375. Its new site under construction at Parcel C is building Q341 — two buildings, one school.

PS 384, Hunters Point Elementary School, has operated out of building Q375 since 2019, a four-story, roughly 75,000-square-foot structure owned by the NYC Department of Education. The school serves close to 500 students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Its founding was itself a response to overcrowding: PS 384 opened that same year in a temporary Court Square space, built to absorb kindergarten overflow from a strained PS 78.
PS 384 is expanding into a second building, Q341, now under construction at Parcel C on 54th Avenue. Designed by Purcell Everett Architects and built under a $74.7 million contract awarded to Navillus Tile, the building broke ground in November 2024 and is expected to open for the 2027-2028 school year. Reported seat counts for the building have ranged from 547 to 572 across different points in its planning process — a span likely reflecting design changes over time rather than a single fixed number.
